Yamuna body rolling

Yamuna Body Rolling grew out of Yamuna Zake’s hands on therapeutic Body Logic system. During the first workshop took with Yamuna she was asked how did the ball work develop? And her frank and plainly off the cuff answer was “I didn’t want my body to feel like I’d been treating clients all day.” I was a newly graduated Pilates teacher but those words resonated with me. The memory of my life old life as a beauty consultant at several New York department stores had left me with achy back and feet that no amount of stretching ever seemed to relieve. After the workshop ended, I booked my self for hands on Body Logic treatments in both NYC and London and I had registered to do an intensive Body Rolling teacher training program. The power of that workshop was an amazing feeling of physical freedom and openness and also a sense that the principles of Yamuna Body Rolling could compliment most fitness disciplines.
Yamuna Body Rolling is based on five principles.
1. Restriction, pain, and discomfort are caused by lack of space
2. The body has a natural logic and order
3. Stimulation of bone
4. Traction creates space
5. Structural reorganization
These principles lay the groundwork for our group classes allowing for a great scope and variety of muscular release and bony alignment. You will learn to use the Yamuna balls to gain a better understanding of your body and how to re-educate it to free yourself from old tensions, patterns and habits.
Yamuna Foot Fitness classes improve your foot function and strength using Foot Wakers. The Foot Wakers are semi circular spheres covered with nubbles. The shape and texture allow the foot to be wrapped and stretched around in a way that’s not possible when flat. The nubbled contour stimulates the surface of the foot and increases circulation. This work is appropriate for anyone but especially great for dancers, runners, athletes and anyone with circulatory issues like diabetics, or neuropathy. The benefits of Yamuna Foot Fitness are improved flexibility and strength of feet and ankles, improved balance and stability, reduction of pain from plantar fasciitis, bunions and neuromas.
You will be able to gauge your progress over time by performing a simple walk test that identifies where strength and alignment can be improved. Your improved foot fitness will allow you to walk with more ease, stand longer or perform with ease. You might notice the shape of your foot changing becoming more toned, bunions reducing in shape or arches lifting.

TESTIMONIALS

  • I booked a private session with Mark after chatting to a friend whose neck pain had really reduced through weekly pilates sessions. I've had back problems for years, and I'm generally a bit apprehensive about working with people as my body has a tendency to go wrong, but Mark's breadth of knowledge, patience, and willingness to listen have made it easy to relax and trust. Over the past year and a half, I've been learning about my body, finding ways to cope when bits of me act up, and I've been getting stronger. I've also had lots of fun, and pilates sessions are now an absolute weekly highlight.

  • I began Yamuna classes whilst waiting for a delayed hip replacement. My hip joint was arthritic, painful, and with limited movement. After each class the hip felt a little more mobile and the pain had lessened. The ball rolling also helped realign my body and stance, which had been affected by my hip. Following the operation I was able to walk with 2 crutches immediately, with one after about 2 weeks and without any at around 5 weeks. The hospital physios were impressed with how well I could walk and move after the operation and I’m sure the ball work really helped my recovery.

  • I have been having individual Pilates sessions with Mark for nearly 2 years; he is a wonderful teacher and I cannot rate him high enough. Some of my earlier sessions were rehabilitative after surgery and he shows incredible thoughtfulness whilst planning an individual programme, one that is holistic and that takes into consideration the fears associated with movement. Mark is extremely motivating and with my progression has demonstrated how adept he is at setting more challenging programmes, whilst remembering any bodily limitations. At times I am astounded by his perceptiveness regarding the body. His other trainings clearly support his Pilates work. Finally, one could not meet a more genuine person, enthusiastic and always welcoming.

  • I’ve been doing Pilates with Sharon for years and love the way she approaches each class with such energy and care. There’s no such thing as a standard class – every one is fresh and builds on your fitness and ability. The classes are small which means you get a lot of personal attention and feedback. The studio is spotlessly clean, with great equipment and a simple, relaxed feel that helps everyone feel right at home.
